Wood-Land-Lakes
Resource Development & Conservation Council is coordinating the restoration of
the Cornish Griffin Round Barn. This barn, located at 2015 S. West Fox Lake
Road, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The barn, built
around 1916, is the only known round barn in Indiana constructed with glazed
tile. The barn is made from fired clay tile blocks, which were made in Brazil
located Clay County Indiana.
The barn’s silo roof has collapsed and the roof above the main part of the barn
is also deteriorated and in need of extensive repairs. The estimated cost of
repairs is $75,000 to $100,000. Wood-Land-Lakes RC & D is spearheading the
fundraising efforts to make these needed repairs to the barn, and the
restoration project is supported and endorsed by the Steuben County Historical
Society and Angola Historic District Council.
The owners of the round barn will sign a Preservation Easement with Historic
Landmarks Foundation of Indiana. This easement will permanently protect the
Cornish Griffin Round Barn from demolition and major structural changes. The
Preservation Easement would also allow school groups to tour the barn, and open
the barn for public tours on specific days of the year.
If you would like to pledge your contribution to the Cornish Griffin Round Barn
Restoration project, please complete the
pledge form and
mail to Wood-Land-Lakes RC&D or save a stamp and complete the
on-line pledge form. Once enough pledges are promised, you
will be asked to send in your money, which will then be tax deductible, as
Wood-Land-Lakes RC&D is a registered nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
